Writing is not about making money, getting famous, getting dated,
getting laid, or making friends. In the end, it is about enriching the
lives of those who will read your work, and enriching your own life, as
well. It is about getting up, getting well, and getting over. Getting
happy, okay? Getting happy.
One of the things I know about
writing is this; Spend it all, shoot it all, play it, lose it, all,
right away, every time. Do not board what seems good for a later place
in the book or for another book. Give it, give it all, give it now!
Something more will arise for later, something better.
If you
want to write, you can. Fear stops most people from writing, not lack of
talent. Who am I? What right have I to speak? Who will listen to me?
You are a human being with a unique story to tell. You have every right.
In writing, there is first a creating stage; a time you look for ideas,
you explore, you cast around for what you want to say. Like the first
phase of building, this creating stage is full of possibilities.
To me being a writer means being ready to open a 24 hours shop that
sells ideas. It is like you have to supply it all the time and you
cannot put a "Sold Out" paper on the window.
Words have
weight, sound, and appearance. It is only by considering these that you
can write a sentence that is good to look at, and good to listen to.
